Davide Sciacca - A Guitar at the Opera


Davide Sciacca obtained a Diploma with Honours in Guitar from the IMVB in Catania in 2008, followed by a Master Degree in Music and Guitar Teaching in 2010. He then went on to achieve a further Master Degree with honours in Musical Disciplines and Guitar Interpretation and Composition in 2012, including a thesis on the French composer Napolean Coste’s opera for Oboe and Guitar.

In 2013 Davide was awarded a Masters in New Technology for Music from the same institution, as well, in 2015,  as an additional Master Degree in Chamber Music from the Conservatoire Bellini in Palermo. In 2016 he obtained a Master in Contemporary Music from the Conservatoire Santa Cecilia in Rome, studying with the extremely talented musician Arturo Tallini.

Davide won more than fifty 1st prizes in international musical competitions including Amigdala,  Magna Grecia, Benedetto Albanese, A gi Mus and AMA Calabria.  He also earned special prizes for his appearances at the international course Citta di Palermo, the Premio Lillina Condemi Prize 2014 and Ierna Prize 2010. Over the years composers Andrea Amici, Laurent Boutros, Roberto Cipollina, Francesco Santucci, Domenico Scaminante, Andrea Schiavo, Joe Schittino and Giuseppe Torrisi have dedicated original compositions to him. He has also been a judge for important national and  international guitar and chamber music competitions.

Davide’s performances have included his solo guitar concerts as well as appearances with chamber music groups, and as a soloist with orchestras in a variety of venues including theatres, cultural centres, universities and churches and cathedrals. He has also performed at the Tuscia International Guitar Festival and with the Ersu Orchestra from his home town of Catania. He regularly lectures at universities in the UK and Italy.

From 2014 Davide Sciacca toured England, Scotland and Wales as both a soloist and as part of the Ten Strings Duo with violinist Marianatalia Ruscica, playing at prestigious venues.

In the years 2016 and 2017 he performed in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, HRH The Prince of Wales, HRH The Duke and The Duchess of Cambridge and other members of the Royal Family.

In 2018 Davide debuted in the United States performing for Culture Connection in New York City.

He has collaborated with actors and directors such as Michele Placido and Guia Jelo.

Davide’s repertoire isn’t confined to classical music, and he has appeared with rock and pop musicians at festivals and events including Sanremo Rock, Star Sprint, Time Tour and Girofestival, as well as working as session musician.

His media appearances include work for Sky, Made in Liverpool Tv, Tele D, Rei TV, Globus Television, and BBC Radio Merseyside.

Davide currently teaches Guitar and Tablature for Lute as part of the academic courses at IMVB in Caltanissetta, Guitar at IMPV in Caltagirone and he also teaches guitar in A. Musco high school in Catania, Sicily.
